SVP, Head of Science
David Jones, Ph.D., is SVP and Head of Science with general oversight and strategic planning for research activities within Culmination.
Prior to joining Culmination, Dr. Jones served as Chief Scientist for the Intermountain Healthcare Office of Research and Scientific Program Director for Intermountain Precision Genomics.
Dr. Jones was the founding chair of the Functional and Chemical Genomics Research Program at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation and served as Associate Director of Translational Research the University of Oklahoma Stephenson Cancer Institute. His leadership in Oklahoma lead to its first ever NCI-sponsored cancer center support grant and NCI-designated cancer center status. He is an established expert in cancer genetics with a focus on colon cancer.
His research has been published extensively in high impact journals and has resulted in four novel clinical trials directly impacting patients and changing clinical practice. Jones received his doctorate degree in Pharmacology from the University of Colorado and completed his postdoctoral fellowship studying human genetics at the University of Utah. He worked for four years as the Genomics Program Leader at Pharmacia and Upjohn, before returning to Utah as an Assistant Professor and a founding faculty member at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. There he was in involved in all aspects of academic research and education.
He became Professor and Co-Chair of the Department of Oncological Sciences and served as Senior Director of Early Transitional Research within the Huntsman Cancer Institute where he led the integration of basic science with clinical research. He has recruited and mentored numerous faculty and trained students in all stages of medical and research careers.
